Since 1946
In the spring of 1945, led by Pastor Harvey H. Springer, the First Baptist Church of Englewood purchased a 160-acre property from an elderly homesteader. The sale included two cows, one horse, four pigs, twenty-two chickens, a barn, and a ranch house. The purpose of this purchase? A youth camp. It was the heart of Harvey Springer to build a place where young people would come away from the world for a time and hear the Word of God powerfully preached. He knew and was passionate about the unmistakable change that can take place as a result of the hearing of the Word of God preached, and was even more passionate about this in the lives of young people.
That first camp in the summer of 1946 began humbly, with boys sleeping in the loft of the barn, and the girls in tents. The meetings were held in tents with only a handful of people present. In the years that followed, a dining hall, dormitories and a tabernacle were built, many of which are still in use today.
Since 1946 countless scores of teenagers and adults have attended Silver State Baptist Youth Camp. Lives have been changed, souls saved, and the ripple-effect impact due what has taken place on the campground is unfathomable. Though much time has passed, the purpose and priorities of Silver State remain unchanged: the preaching of the Word of God as the priority, and hearts turned to Christ as the purpose.
